translation in French of Myk-Yung Choi and Jean-Noël Juttet. Saint-Amand-Montrond, Zulma, 2004

L '"invited", or better the' guest "which gives the title of this novel is Yosop Ryu, a Protestant minister North Korean immigrants in the United States at the time of Korean War and who goes for the first time in his home town in the twenty-first century, along with a group of refugees who are granted permission to review the original families, shortly after the death of his brother Ryu Yohan, the latter, organizer Christians in the first year of the war, had been guilty of crimes brutal, driving some Christians killing several armed communists in the village where he lived and had fled to the U.S. leaving behind the need for the events, his wife and newborn son, then said, in America.

The crudeness of the Korean War, which he had already struck other stories set in the same period, including the short story that we reviewed on "line cards" in the French version entitled MONSIEUR HAN, is expressed in this tragic and epic novel, whose author focuses attention on the part of civil war rather than on the threat of foreign intervention, saying how much violence has been present in the conflict between factions Korean adverse.

The reasons, in the memorial reconstruction, fragmented and deliberately told by different voices ein framed by that of the first-person narrator in third person, are made in both social and personal, included in the social composition of the time and the explosion of passion and emotional that characterized the conflict.

Among the narrative voices in a performance of magical realism, some are living, some ghosts. The author warns that the chapters, titles and subtitles, are articulated as the successive moments of a shamanistic ritual (shamanism is a religion of Korea): dall'ESORCISMO ( What remains after death ) to REBIRTH ( in Chapter seven of the twelve that make up the book, then about half), the PROCESSION OF THE ANIME (in the penultimate chapter), annual leave in the last chapter.

The fantasy element and the shamanic world of archaic traits characterize contemporary history by establishing a continuity with the ancient ritual identity. It moves beyond the conflict between Christianity and Communism, then, to go to a reunion between the dead and the living, between past and present, between the wounds inflicted by Yohan and repair offering guest's visit, the meeting remained with their families and communities hurt, the difficult conversations with relatives, and finally the burial of the remains of a body of Yohan cremated after death.

MFW: a new show

(Moodboard made by me. ; pic from Girl's Fashion Squad)

Tomorrow kicks off a new week of women's fashion in the shadow of the Duomo in Milan for next autumn-winter 2011/2012.
now serves little to "participate" in a parade: the timetable published by the National Chamber of Fashion and a good site, where to watch all the live fashion show ... streaming of course!
Council site NOW FASHION , which lists all the shows day by day and related links.
Good show!

How High To Tie Converses

Annamaria Ferramosca, Rilke and the contour lines

[ "I came across some lines which did not bend but took up colour" (Brussels 2011) . Photos of Marzia Poerio]

1.

Rilke's eighth ELEGY

The house has windows facing the sea to remember the source

the vortex calm the sails ancient
returns that in turn farewells
departures for other oceans

The garden pines' aleppo and olive
to accommodate those who do not know of the death
insects and birds, foxes
night, sometimes - Real estate-
also watch the sea as a blunder
mysterious
- animals never lay
death in the eye -
us we on the right and shortsighted
see the sky lit fires

and places where it rains she blindly
The dough rose fast

silent plugs are preparing to penetrate the meat

the sea to overwhelm the disorder
embraces mixed
shots despite the anguish from the cicadas sounded the tocsin

the branches from pine trees swallows flying
to the south, unperturbed

AFTER RILKE'S Eighth ELEGY

The house has windows to the ocean
know as to recall the beginning
the ancient vortex, calm, millennial sails
returns That turn to Farewells
Odysseys bound for other seas

In the Garden Aleppo pines and olive trees
welcome Those who know nothing of death:
insects and birds, foxes nocturnal Sometimes
- motionless -
also look out to sea
as if mysteriously dazzled
- animals never look
death in the eye -
we live with it by our side, shortsighted
see the sky light up with flames
and the places where
death blindly rains

The rose soon loses its leaves
in silence its thorns make ready
to pierce our flesh
the sea to submerge disorder
hugs are mixed with gunshots despite
the unease of cicadas
swarming in the trees

From the pines, swallows fly
south, undaunted

CURVE DI LIVELLO

Sebbene la mia carta sia disposta
with the top face north
not find neither East nor West
The paper seems to have dis-oriented

Nothing fixity map, except
attitude uncertain, tremulous
resistance drift
waved contours - yet I'm sober -
shocks, such as on a fault line in place
Loose points lines

no longer obedient to the order - all in line at the same level of the sea -

A new line comes together, glossy
lengthens,
lightning fast on paper, punch
fugitive trail of light flies
on our circle, slight
touches us in the forehead, chest
Aligned Movement, we shake hands
burn to clear invasion
flees, filled with light, a pilgrim
continents. We are looking
points - the same - level - love

CONTOUR LINES

Despi my map
Being laid out with the upper edge facing North
I can find Neither East nor West
By now the map dis-orientated Seems

Not a trace of cartographic fixity
except for an uncertain ability, resistance to a quivering
Being adrift
The contour lines wobble - even though I'm sober-
shaken, as if on an active fault
Points unfasten from the lines
no longer obeying order
- all in a row, at the same level over the sea -

A new line is drawn, brightly
stretches, swift
as an arrow on paper, piercing it
like a fugitive wake of light it flies
over our circle, softly
touches our brow, our breast

We hold hands in a row
burning with joy at the invasion
The line flees, laden with light, a pilgrim
of the continents. The search goes on
for points - on the same - level - as love
